The question

Among US federal notices performed in Japan, where is the currently open work, by category and by location?

What was measured

US federal contract notices published to SAM.gov whose place of performance resolves to Japan. “Open” means a notice that invites a response (a solicitation, combined synopsis/solicitation, presolicitation, sources sought, or a special notice with a deadline), is not cancelled or inactive, and whose response deadline has not passed. A notice that states no deadline is counted as open and marked “No response deadline stated”. Award notices, justifications and other records that invite no response are counted as neither open nor closed. Judged as of today; it does not mean any given firm is eligible to respond.

Key figures

Open notices

38

Notices that invite a response and whose deadline has not passed (or state none) — a snapshot taken today

Tracked to date

109

Every notice held, including closed ones

Buyer groups

6

Distinct buyer groupings across tracked notices, not individual contracting offices

Prefectures

8

Prefectures with at least one notice recorded as place of performance

The data

Notices by category

A notice can fall in more than one category, so these do not sum to the tracked total.

Notices by prefecture

Some notices resolve to Japan without resolving to a prefecture. Those do not appear in this table.

How to read this

These are today's figures. Notices are added, amended and closed daily on SAM.gov, so the same question asked next week returns different numbers. The category mix reflects the sustained operations-and-maintenance demand around US installations in Japan.

An open notice is not an eligible one. Eligibility, registration requirements and set-aside status differ per notice and have to be read in the notice itself.

Sources

Method

  • SAM.gov's daily published notice data is ingested and filtered to notices whose place of performance resolves to Japan, matched on country and state codes, address text and installation names.
  • “Open” means a notice that invites a response (a solicitation, combined synopsis/solicitation, presolicitation, sources sought, or a special notice with a deadline), is not cancelled or inactive, and whose response deadline has not passed. A notice that states no deadline is counted as open and marked “No response deadline stated”. Award notices, justifications and other records that invite no response are counted as neither open nor closed.

What this does not tell you

  • This is a snapshot, not a stable statistic. The counts change the next day.
  • A notice whose place of performance is recorded incorrectly at source may not be captured, even if the work is in Japan. Absence here does not establish absence of the procurement.
