Data updated Oct 16, 2026

The question

Which central-government bodies account for the most award value, and how many suppliers do they buy from?

What was measured

Central-government award results published on Japan's Procurement Portal (調達ポータル) with an award date between 2021-10-16 and 2026-10-16 (60 months). 45 bodies have recorded awards.

Supplier counts are distinct corporate number (法人番号)s, not award counts: a company that wins repeatedly counts once.

How to read this

Value and volume are distributed differently. The top five bodies hold 53.7% of the value, but all 45 bodies have recorded awards, and the median body (Public Prosecutors Office) still recorded 2,889 awards worth ¥31,955,770,479.

This shows how published award results are distributed. It does not measure how open any agency is to new suppliers, and a large figure says nothing about how strong the competition is.

Method

  • Hashike ingests the award-result files the Procurement Portal publishes and aggregates them by ministry code into counts, values and distinct corporate numbers. Only records with an award date between 2021-10-16 and 2026-10-16 are included.
  • Shares are each body's recorded value over the recorded total. Nothing here is estimated.

What this does not tell you

  • Central-government award results only. Local and prefectural procurement, some independent administrative institutions, and anything not published on the Procurement Portal are outside this dataset.
  • The window runs 2021-10-16 to 2026-10-16. Awards outside it are not counted.
  • All amounts are in yen and are never combined with, or compared against, the US federal dollar figures elsewhere on this site.
  • Awards whose corporate number cannot be resolved from the record are missing from the supplier figures. That is a gap in the record, not an absence of activity.
