Research what a US agency buys in Japan
Hashike lets you filter US federal notices performed in Japan by buying agency (Navy, Army, Air Force, State and others) and read them in Japanese. For past contracts, the us_buyer_profile tool returns each agency's award count, value and contracting-office breakdown.

US agencies buy in Japan, and the records are public
US agencies such as the Navy, Army, Air Force and the State Department buy construction, facility maintenance, transport and supplies for bases and facilities in Japan. A Japanese company looking for this work, as a prime contractor or a subcontractor, first has to find the records and read them. Open notices appear in English on SAM.gov, the US government's procurement site, and past contracts are recorded on USAspending.gov.
Hashike organizes both sources in Japanese. With the steps below you can filter current notices by buying agency, then size that agency's past contracting by count and value.
Filter current notices by buying agency
- Open Hashike's opportunities page (/opportunities). It lists SAM.gov notices whose place of performance is Japan, newest first. You do not need an account.
- Under the agency filter, choose Navy, Army, Air Force, State or Other defense. The number in brackets is how many notices match.
- Add a base or a category if you want, then apply the filters. The status filter shows open notices by default; choose All to include closed notices and award notices.
- Each listing shows the category, the buying organization, the Japanese title, the posted date and the response deadline. The organization appears as SAM.gov records it, department first, as in DEPT OF DEFENSE.DEPT OF THE NAVY.NAVFACSYSCOM FAR EAST. The last segment is the contracting office that runs the procurement.
- Open a notice to see its notice type, NAICS (industry) code, PSC (product and service) code, response deadline, place of performance and a Japanese excerpt of the requirement. The SAM.gov original is authoritative.
- To see every notice in one field, open a category such as construction, facilities operations or ship sustainment from the markets page (/markets).
Pull an agency's past contract totals
Open notices do not show how much an agency usually buys, or what. Hashike's us_buyer_profile tool reads USAspending.gov contract records and returns, for one agency's Japan-performed contracting, the award count and value in US dollars, the activity-date window, a breakdown by sub-agency and contracting office, and supplier concentration. It covers navy, army, air-force, dla and state, and the office parameter narrows the result to one contracting office. It returns aggregates only, never individual award records.
- Create an API key from the developer page (/developers), or add Hashike to your AI assistant as an MCP connector.
- Call us_buyer_profile with the agency name. Give your AI assistant a request like the one below, or send the request in the code block from a script.
- Check computedAt in the result to see when the totals were built. Hashike rebuilds them nightly; they are not computed at the moment you call.
- Before reading the office breakdown, check the examined count. Office and top-supplier figures come only from the awards whose detail record was fetched (examined), a smaller population than the full analyzed set.
A request to give your AI assistant.
Use the Hashike us_buyer_profile tool for agency navy. Report the award count and value in US dollars, the activity-date window, the sub-agencies and contracting offices with the most awards, and supplier concentration. For each figure, say which population it counts (analyzed or examined), and keep every amount in US dollars.curl -X POST https://hashike.io/api/mcp \

Reading the figures
- US figures are in dollars. Japanese central-government award values are in yen and come from a different source and fiscal calendar, so the two cannot be added or compared.
- Contract value is the amount obligated to date. It is not the contract ceiling and not the amount paid out.
- Only notices and contracts recorded with Japan as the place of performance are included. A mis-recorded place of performance can drop a record or let one in.
